Outfit? Check. Hair and makeup? Check. Honey? Check check.
Photoshoot location? Almost. Hang on for a hot minute and let me make sure you’re totally ready to get the perfect spot for you and your boo to snap those engagement (or family!) sessions.
Whether you’re getting ready for an engagement or family session, the location of your photos is probably on the top of your list of preferences. Before you start the planning process, keep in mind the permit problem.
The LAST thing you want is to get your hair and makeup done, or all the kids in their matching chambray tops only to find out you can’t get your pictures taken on those stairs by the beach.
I live in Southern California, which means there are PLENTY of beautiful places to get gorgeous photos. However, very few locations these days that do not require a permit. This means there’s a cost AND you have to do the leg work of acquiring the permit.
- This is NOT something that should keep you from selecting the location, but it is something to consider as you’re planning the date, time, etc. You want to make sure you have enough time to get the permit beforehand!
- For example, if you want to get a family session done at the Irvine Regional Park, you’d have to get an OC Parks Permit here.
- Finally, permits run anywhere from $50 to $100 an hour. This is a cost assumed by the client, not the photographer. It’s 2020 and beaches and parks need to make a little bit of extra money, so this is one way to do so.
If you have your heart set on a location, be aware that it might require a permit. Plan ahead, check the website, and make sure that what you have in your head (or saved on Pinterest) comes to life.
